This anchorage spot offered us great protection from the Easterly Levante winds that are common in Cadiz. The usual place to anchor is under the large suspension bridge, which does have very good holding and protection - but not from the SE. There is a lot of current and the swell builds up really badly when the wind is coming from the SE. We found this spot - although no protection from the wind - protected us very well from the swell. It was more comfortable - in up to 45 knot winds - and better holding (in sand) than under the bridge. The port authorities could not understand why we were choosing to anchor here in an Easterly wind, but trying to explain in our very broken Spanish that our anchor held better where there was reduced swell was very difficult!
