Chios Town harbour is extremely large. We visited on May 30th and there were only 4 sailing yachts there. Talk of over-crowding seemed to us mis-placed, but we can see that the south side might be rough if there is a strong Meltemi. It is not an attractive place, but that is not its point. The island of Chios is stunning and amazingly varied. Lush and green to the north, there is a wonderful underground chapel, a Renaissance monastery church with some of the best frescoes we have seen anywhere, the abaodonned villages of the centre, and the "mastica" villages.
