The lagoon of Isla Mujeres is a very safe anchorage and is also considered a hurricane hole. However the water is mainly shallow so boats with drafts >2 m need to be careful and can only anchor in the northeastern part of the lagoon. Also keep the channel clear for the fishing boats. If you consider to go into the lagoon with an upcoming storm do so early as your anchor will need some time to dig in properly.
