Darren is incorrect about the anchorage. You can anchor next to the morning buoys if you wish. Just ask the harbour master where and don’t do it slap bang in the middle of the fairway. Just bear in mind that the tide is strong and your anchor will reset each turn unless you use your kedge.

Reviewing Visitors Buoys in the River on the seaward side of Salcome. Harbour master pointed out buoy to moore up to which was rafted up to another yacht on the buoy. Over the 2 days we stayed we had 2 different yachts along side. Not something we have experienced before and to be honest not something we would choose to do again. Strong currents in the river which were not really an issue but something to be aware of. Short dingy ride into the town where all facilities available in abundance. Lovely place to visit but very crowded in the summer months.

Plenty of DEEP WATER anchorage spots: Sunny’s Cove, Saltstone, Millbay, Smalls Cove, East Portlemouth, etc.
