During the daytime the Coast Guard will come by and ask you to leave this place because of an ordinance prohibiting to anchor at depths below of 20 meters allegedly “to protect posidonia”. So either you drop your anchor far away from the cost (if you have enough chains) or you will be forced to move westward of the harbor (where the prohibition no longer applies, even though there is posidonia, I suppose..). I haven’t tried the place at nighttime, so cannot tell if the Coast Guard will force you to leave also at that time. Having said that, the town of Amalfi is ancient and beautiful and deserves to be visited, although very crowded especiallyon Sundays and in August

we anchored in the daytime a few meters from the beach and nobody came to ask us to leave. it also had no separation mark. At noon the day before a kayak bather came to ask us to leave saying that we could be fined by the captaincy. To avoid problems we left and anchored on the other side of the port. We didn’t go to the beach with the dinghy.

We anchored here at 11.00 pm, on sand. Everything ok, but in the morning at 08.30 the captain's office told us to leave because anchoring is prohibited less than 20m deep "to protect posidonia". I suspect they want to do the same end of Positano: disproportionate prices in the port and inability to anchor elsewhere for free. I am very disappointed with this type of strategy adopted in this region, we will go elsewhere. P.Š. before entering here, we tried to go to the petrol pump in the port, but it was full of fishermen and I didn't want to move them all to moor.
