Overnight anchoring in Baie des Canebiers is good but you must pay attention to the weather forecast news. If strong mistral winds are coming, you need anchor watch. The bottom of Baie des Canebiers is sand. When mistral hit us at 3:30 am in the morning, our anchor was dragging slowly toward the beach. We pulled the anchor and we moved our sailboat to the safe area. Our oars were stolen by local kids partying on the beach when we left our dinghy on the beach beside other dinghies under the trees for our dinner trip to Saint Tropez. Fortunately we took red emergency cord with us from our outboard motor engine. Pay attention to the weeds under shallow water. Our dinghy outboard motor engine was nearly screwed up by weeds. The scene is breathtaking there and it’s very close to Saint Tropez but you need taxi ride.

Today the water is clear! There are not many people and anchoring is easy! Well protected.

A bay that could be magnificent ... but between the round trips of yacht tenders and sightseeing boats that respect nothing, dirty water, and when I say dirty, it's cloudy, full of waste .... In the evening there are nauseating odors which are reminiscent of discharges from septic tanks ..... so imagine the water .... swimming not recommended! It is a real shame, because it is a pretty well sheltered bay, a simple anchorage, with pleasant landscapes, and access to nearby St Tropez.
